Sound characteristics of the Ban Gongs

The Ban Gong produces a keynote that is sustained for a long time when it is only lightly struck. It is similar to the Tiger Gong, but this gong has, contrary to the Tiger Gong, a characteristic upward sound when it is struck with a small hard stick. Struck like that, it produces a low-pitched note that rises up to the keynote which then resonates for a while.

The Ban Gong is supplied with a simple standard stick.
