Tabla skins (Dayan) and Bayan skins require a very special skill of an experienced craftsman when they are made. Good skins which make the different layers of the finished skin as well as experience in mixing the black paste are the prerequisites. The black paste is applied in 5 - 8 production steps; between these steps it is dried, sanded and tuned on the instrument before the next layer is applied. This is a highly complex process whose careful manufacturing is crucial for the quality or the sound of the finished Dayan or Bayan.

TARANG offers two qualities, a Five Star and a Premium quality. The latter is from the manufacturer Narayan Badya Bandhar who is known for his good Tabla quality. Unexcelled is the Five Star Quality whose manufacturing is monitored by Tabla maestro Sajal Karmakar. Only the best results of the finished skins are approved by him.

It is also difficult to receive good quality leather straps from India. The leather straps we supply are of a very high quality.
