KIRTAN-HARMONIUM CLASSIC BY TIRUPATI
42 KEYS - DOUBLE REEDS - 3 BUILT IN DRONE STOPS - COUPLER
The Kirtan Harmonium Classic is a classic model made by Indian companies like BINA, DMS, Paloma and others. which is well known in western Kirtan scene for example though Krishna DAS and Jai Utal. The Kirtan Harmonium Classic offered by us is nearly identical to those of the other manufacturers, but the company Tirupati uses more high-quality materials. The Kirtan Classic Harmonium is easy to carry due to its compact dimensions and simple and robust design, making it an ideal companion for travel. The harmonium is equipped with double Reeds and provides a brilliant, full sound. A switchable octave coupling amplifies the sound. The simple processing makes a relatively favorable selling price possible.
The harmonium is equipped with 42 keys, which allow a range of 3 1/2 octaves (c-f). Each key has 2 reeds for the middle and bass register, so one key plays a note in two different octaves. The available stop knobs allow you to activate both register individually or together. 3 fixed drone tones (continuous tones) can be activated as required. The side-operated bellow has a multiple fold and provides excellent good air volume. Above the keyboard is a removable sliding top for softer sound. If you remove this cover plate, it is possible to influence the sound color (jali) and volume. A folding mechanism ensures that the harmonium can be folded up and stored or transported in a space-saving manner.
The coupler thus gives the possibility, together with the double reeds, to produce a particularly powerful, voluminous sound. You should consider, however, that the more reeds are blown, the more air has to be supplied by the bellows, but the instrument has a large, long lasting bellows volume.
The harmonium and the case are made of pine wood, which is softer than the wood usually used for instrument building. As a result, the instruments made of pinewood can get small dents or other beauty defects in the wood, even during the construction phase, as a result of transport and export. These are to be viewed as material and not a defect.
Near Delhi is the headquarters of the harmonium manufacturer Sharma Musicals, whose brand name TIRUPATI stands for reliable quality. Founded in 1934, Sharma Musicals is now one of the leading harmonium makers in India. The current CEO, Mayank Sharma, heads the company in the 4th generation. Due to the long experience and the high level of awareness of the respective company management, Sharma Musicals provides a whole range of harmonium models in the North Indian region. In the United States, Sharma musicals are being used under the brand name Bhava Harmonium. Among others, they are recommended by the Kirtan teacher Daniel Tucker.
Tuning of the Harmonium
The harmonium models offered by us are tuned in India to the western standard A 440 Hertz. In our climatic conditions, the tuning is at a minimum higher 441 - max. 442 Hertz. Even a trained ear is not necessarily able to hear this and most of our musician clients can accept this minimal higher tuning. However, with instruments whose tuning can not be easily adapted, problems may arise. If this is the case, please let us know. If necessary, we can tune a harmonium to 440 Hertz for an extra charge. Other tunings which are far away from the 440 Hertz, such as the often requested 432 Hertz cannot be tuned, it has to be ordered in India, The waiting period is several months. Just ask us if you would like to have a Harmonium on that tuning.
