KIRTAN-HARMONIUM CLASSIC BY SARANG
42 KEYS - DOUBLE REEDS - 3 BUILT IN DRONE STOPS - COUPLER

The Kirtan Harmonium Classic is a classic of the Indian companies BINA, DMS, Tirupati and others, which has become known in the West in the Kirtan scene, for example, through Krishna DAS and Jai Utal. The Kirtan Harmonium Classic offered here by us from the maker Sarang is almost identical in construction to those of the other manufacturers, but offers better quality workmanship. Due to the compact dimensions and the simple and robust construction, the Kirtan Classic Harmonium is easy to transport and is an ideal companion when travelling. The harmonium is equipped with double reeds and delivers a brilliant, full sound. A switchable octave coupling enhances the sound and makes it even fuller. A very good choice for the ambitious kirtan singer or as a beginner's harmonium.

The harmonium is equipped with 42 bar keys, which allow a range of 3 1/2 octaves (c-f). (low register (bass) C2 - F5, middle register (male) C3 - F6). Each key is equipped with 2 reeds for the middle and low register. Due to the existing 5 register slides it is possible to activate both registers together or individually. 4 drones (C, D, G, A) can be activated as desired. The laterally operable bellow has a multiple fold and provides a very good air volume. There is a cover above the keyboard. If you take it off, it is possible to influence the timbre and volume. A sliding mechanism allows the harmonium to be softened and louder. A folding mechanism ensures that the harmonium can be folded and stored or transported in a space-saving way. The harmonium has a high gloss shellac varnish. The harmonium and case are made of pine wood and a padded plastic carrying bag is included. The color is teak.

The coupler thus gives the possibility, together with the double reeds, to produce a particularly powerful, voluminous sound. You should consider, however, that the more reeds are blown, the more air has to be supplied by the bellows, but the instrument has a large, long lasting bellows volume.

The harmonium and the case are made of pine wood, which is softer than the wood usually used for instrument building. As a result, the instruments made of pinewood can get small dents or other beauty defects in the wood, even during the construction phase, as a result of transport and export. These are to be viewed as material and not a defect.

Manufacturer

SARANG harmoniums are characterised by a particularly fine quality of material and workmanship, setting them apart from similarly constructed models from other manufacturers. Sarang is the international brand name for instruments made by Amaanshi Exports from Ghaziabad, a neighbouring city of Delhi. Amaanshi Exports was founded in 1966 and is now run by the third generation of the founder's grandson, Mayank Kumar. Amaanshi builds all the harmonium models typical for Delhi and north-western India.

Tuning of the Harmonium

The harmonium models offered by us are tuned in India to the western standard A 440 Hertz. In our climatic conditions, the tuning is at a minimum higher 441 - max. 442 Hertz. Even a trained ear is not necessarily able to hear this and most of our musician clients can accept this minimal higher tuning. However, with instruments whose tuning can not be easily adapted, problems may arise. If this is the case, please let us know. If necessary, we can tune a harmonium to 440 Hertz for an extra charge. Other tunings which are far away from the 440 Hertz, such as the often requested 432 Hertz cannot be tuned, it has to be ordered in India, The waiting period is several months. Just ask us if you would like to have a Harmonium on that tuning.
