Some people find the significantly lower tuning to 432 hertz softer and more relaxing, or fundamentally consider it more harmonious and healing than the standard tuning to 440 hertz. However, since shruti boxes cannot be retuned at will, the 432 tuning makes it impossible to play with instruments tuned to 440 hertz.
TARANG offers a small, medium and a larger Shrutibox model by the manufacturer Monoj Kumar Sardar. 13 chromatically tuned notes from c to c' (or C3 to C4 in scientific notation). Each of the twelve semitones can be used as a keynote and combined with a fifth or fourth above or below it to create a full, sustaining overall sound. The larger bellows volume of the bigger version provides a very stable sonorous sound. Thus the sound will be very consistent even when the bellows movements are irregular and it will go on resonating for a while on its own after the bellows movements have stopped. A stable sound is also achieved by slow and even pumping when several valves are open. The frame is made of solid wood whereas the bellows wings are made of laminated wood.
