The Swarmandal by Monoj Kumar Sardar has a high-gloss wooden surface coated with shellac. The instrument is very well crafted; the wooden corpus is thin-walled. As opposed to the alternative model by Paloma (5 octaves) you can achieve a tonal range of 4 octaves with this Swarmandal.
The Swarmandal mainly serves to accompany female singers in India who strike the open strings with their fingers, similar to harp playing, especially when they want to fill short intervals. The Swarmandal is tuned to the respective pitch. The Swarmandal as offered by TARANG is stringed with 30 strings. Its body is similar to the zither that is well-known in Bavaria. It comes in a case and with a tuning tool.
As a traditional instrument manufacturer in the centre of Kolkata, Monoj Kumar Sardar supplies the whole range of Indian instruments and instruments from the folklore range as well as some western instruments. Monoj Kumar Sardar supplies a reliably good quality, both in processing and in sound characteristics, and can in every respect be called a manufacturer of excellent instruments with a good price-performance ratio.
